On a sunny but windy day we headed towards Brae. Just North of the town and before the sign for North Mavine lies Mavis Grind. We took a rubble road up to the top of the hills and carried on walking to find a little hidden island. There are some great views over Brae and out over the west of Shetland coastline. It was so relaxing to get away from the hustle bustle of life and spend some time with your thoughts and with each other while getting some much needed exercise. There are lots of great walks with plenty of photo opportunities and some good spots to camp in this area of Shetland. Mavis Grind is famous for a thin strip of land which separates the Atlantic Ocean on the left and the North Sea on the right which are a stones throw from each other.

Above you can see the little island we came across complete with the owners cabin. What a great spot to get away from it all! In the distance you can see the west coast of Shetland and the Atlantic Ocean.
